End Mass Incarceration
If Texas were its own country (again), we would have the highest incarceration rate in the world.
Despite crime rates peaking in 1992 and then falling dramatically, prison populations nearly doubled after that.
Mass incarceration is an unconscionable trend that has decimated families and communities, with Black and Brown communities hit hardest.
Not only is this a moral issue, but it’s an economic one as well.
Former inmates face employment stigmas that can jeopardize their job opportunities for a lifetime. These limitations punish them, their families & their communities long after their debt to society is paid.
We should be empowering all Texans to make the most of their lives. Texas must take a stand and lead the nation in ending policies and practices that force every inmate to serve a life sentence.
